On the 15th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks, local towns and organizations are hosting events to remember the victims.
Town of Leesburg Hosts Observance Events
The town will hold a remembrance event at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sep. 11 on the Town Green at 25 West Market St. Mayor David Butler will speak as part of the event.
Additionally, the town’s Freedom Memorial at freedom Park (101 Colonel Grenata Circle SE) will stay open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Both events are free and open to the public
Purcellville to Hold Ceremony
On Sep. 11, Purcellville’s annual remembrance ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the First Responders Monument at 250 South Nursery Ave. Town mayor Fraser, as well as representatives of Loudoun County Fire & Rescue, Purcellville Police Department, Purcellville Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Squad will also attend.
The Monument was dedicated in 2011, and includes a steel beam that was part of World Trade Center Tower Two as well as a stone from Shanksville, Penn.
Tribute and Speakers at Liberty Farm Festival
As part of its annual program, the Liberty Farm Festival in Paris, Va. will honor the memory of the Sep. 11 attacks with a memorial and speakers.
