Thomas A.M. Afful, 20, of Ashburn was arrested Feb. 10 and charged with assault and battery of a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and obstruction of justice.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 43000 block of Needmore Ct. in Ashburn after a witness said a man wearing a mask pointed a gun at her. After identifying Afful as a subject at the scene that matched the witness’ description, a LCSO deputy tried to detain him, according to an arrest report.
Afful didn’t comply with the deputy, the report said, then assaulted him. He subsequently fled on foot and threw items out of his pockets as he ran. A K9 unit brought in to investigate the scene identified several items as drug paraphernalia, LCSO Public Information Officer Kraig Troxell said.
Afful was later caught and then taken into custody. He was released from the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on a secured bond. No weapon was found on Afful’s person or in the area of the incident after a search, Troxell said.
