Following an Aug. 2 campaign rally by Donald Trump in Ashburn, several Virginia democrats hosted an event for U.S. military veterans, which served as a rebuttal to the Republican presidential nominee and his policies.
Three speakers with military affiliations talked about Trump. They focused heavily on his recent criticisms toward the parents of deceased U.S. army Capt. Humayun Khan, a University of Virginia graduate who died in Iraq in 2004.
“(Trump) is a petulant child who is unfit to lead our military and unfit to lead our country. Period,” said retired Deputy Chief of Naval Operations Kevin Green. The former vice admiral then stumped for Clinton, saying she is the better choice for commander-in-chief.
Green followed another solider, Terron Sims II, who expressed similar views on Trump and Clinton. Sue Hoppin, founder of the National Military Spouse Network, also spoke out against Trump.
“Divisive and shameful comments from someone who is trying to become Commander in Chief of this country should be swiftly denounced by leaders on both sides of the aisle, and by the American public,” Hoppin said.
