A Williamsburg man was caught with a loaded handgun at Dulles International Airport May 16 when Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers detected the firearm as the man attempted to pass through a security checkpoint.
The .40 caliber handgun was loaded with seven rounds, TSA officials said in a release. TSA officers contacted the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Police who confiscated the gun and cited the man on weapons charges. The passenger was ticketed to fly to Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates.
Travelers who attempt to bring guns through the security checkpoint are subject to potential criminal charges from law enforcement and civil penalties from TSA of up to $12,000.
