Waxpool Road near Gresham Drive will continue to be closed between Loudoun County Parkway and Smith Switch Road in Ashburn till after six o’clock p.m. on June 8. Loudoun County officials continue to recommend all commuters avoid that area this evening.

Waxpool Road near Gresham Drive in Ashburn will be shut down for “an extended period of time” due to an outdoor gas leak, according to the Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Department. There is no immediate danger to the area and no evacuations have been made, said Fire and Rescue public information officer Laura Rinehart.
“There’s no eminent danger,” Rinehart said. “They shut everything down as a precaution for everyone driving through and to bring in the equipment they needed to fix it.”
Traffic is expected to snarl around the area as the road could be closed till as late as 7 p.m. today. Rinehart said Loudoun County Public Schools have been notified about potential traffic complications and motorists are advised to avoid the area, particularly during evening rush hour. Workers from Washington Gas were on scene to fix the leak as of noon May 8.
