The ADAMS Center hosted Eid prayer services across Northern Virginia Sept. 12, and hundreds of local Muslims came to worship in the center’s Sterling location to celebrate the holiday.
Eid-Ul-Adha marks the end of the Hajj — the period when Muslims make the pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The day commemorates one of the most important holidays in Islam. It also celebrates Abraham’s sacrifice.
Men, women and children gathered to pray and listen to a lecture on the day’s importance. The services began with a reading of a speech by President Barak Obama wishing American Muslims a happy Eid, followed by prayer and a call to ask for forgiveness for mistakes and to come together to celebrate Eid.
