The Loudoun County Republican Committee is asking county school board member Joy Maloney to resign following her arrest Tuesday at a Donald Trump campaign rally in Ashburn.
Maloney, who represents the Broad Run district on the school board, reportedly tried to block attendees trying to enter the Briar Woods High auditorium to hear Trump speak. She was charged with trespassing and released on bond later that day.
She did not initially respond to calls.
“”This is not about Donald Trump or even politics,” said LCRC Chairman Will Estrada. “Several other protesters peaceably demonstrated against Donald Trump. But not Joy Maloney. She acted in a way unbecoming of an elected member of a Loudoun County School Board.”
The LCRC also called for Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randall, Leesburg Supervisor Kristen Umstattd, Supervisor Koran Saines, and Leesburg District School Board Member Tom Marshall to publicly renounce Maloney and urge her to resign from her position.
