At approximately 5 p.m. Sunday, a Cessna 182 aircraft went off the runway at Leesburg Executive Airport upon landing and flipped over. Emergency crews responded to the scene.
There were four people on the plane: the pilot and three passengers. One passenger was transported to Inova Loudoun Hospital’s Leesburg Campus emergency room where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. The pilot and other two passengers were assessed and treated at the scene.
The runway was closed during the initial emergency response and was reopened by 6:00 p.m.
As the aircraft was being righted in order to tow it to a storage hangar, a fuel leak was discovered. The Loudoun County Hazmat Team responded and performed a fuel clean up. At the time of the accident, the pilot reported having less than 50 gallons of fuel on board. The fuel spill was contained and there was no fire or danger of a fire.
