Reece Leggitt is described as a bright, bubbly 4-year-old girl. She was born with Arthrogryposis, a condition that impacts joints, particularly in the arms and legs.
At birth, Reece had club feet, a dislocated knee, a dislocated hip, contracted leg muscles, almost no muscles in her arms, deviated wrists and fingers and a very limited range of motion in her arms and legs.
After talking with medical experts, the Leggitt family learned that early treatment was key. Following treatment at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, Reece headed to Philadelphia’s Shriners Hospital, known for its treatment of children with orthopedic problems as well as doctors that specialize in Arthrogryposis treatment. Shiners treats not only children with orthopedic challenges but also those children with burns and neurological conditions – at no cost to their families.
Five surgeries later, Reece can walk and feed herself independently. She loves school, horses and her 9-year-old brother, Fischer. Reece was on the NFL Channel last year running a 40-yard dash to help raise funds for another children’s hospital, St. Jude’s in Memphis.
On July 25, Reece and the Leggitt family, for the third year in a row, along with the Raise Your Glass Foundation, will host the Reece Leggitt Golf Classic to raise funds for Shriners Hospital. The golf tournament will be held at the River Creek Club in Leesburg.
Guest hosting the golf tournament again this year will be former Washington Redskins NFL MVP Mark Moseley.
Funds raised for the golf tournament will assist Shriners in its mission to help medically challenged children from all over the world receive treatment.
