South Riding Toddler Drowns in Pond

A three-year-old boy lost his life in South Riding.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) was called at 2:19 p.m. April 6 to the 25000 block of Potomac Twain Terrace in Chantilly for a reported drowning.

The toddler had left his home by himself. When his parents realized he was missing, they searched the area and were joined by neighbors. They eventually found him in a retention pond, LCSO Media Relations Officer Aleksandra Kowalski said.

The boy was unresponsive and a family member tried to resuscitate him while they waited for an ambulance.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The investigation is in its preliminary phase, Kowalski said, and it’s not clear if any charges will be filed.

This is a developing story that will be updated as information is made available.
