World Class Ice Sculptors Compete at Leesburg Winter Ice Festival

The Village of Leesburg hosted the fourth annual Winter Ice Festival Jan. 14, featuring eight world-class ice carvers as part of the Annual Mega Block Ice Carving Competition.

Baltimore-based Ice Lab Ice Sculptures designed the event’s signature piece for the fourth year in a row.

The competition began at 9 a.m. and went until 5 p.m., when the winners were announced. Todd Dawson wan the $2,000 first place prize with site No. 6 titled Taking Flight. Jess Parrish won the $1,500 second place prize with site No. 5 titled Ballerina. Angelito Baban wan the $1,000 third place prize with site No. 4 titled Angel’s Landing, spokesperson Cameron Carey said.

The sculptures will be illuminated and will remain in the Village Plaza until they melt or have to be safely dismantled, Village at Leesburg Senior Director of Marketing Staci Harris said in a release.
