County residents can help Loudoun and Fairfax students in need start the next school year a little more prepared.
The Rotary Club of Ashburn has partnered with Costco and Giant to collect back-to-school items from July 23 to Aug. 6. The items will be packaged together in backpacks that Loudoun County Public Schools will give to students they’ve identified by need.
Some of the necessary items include composition books, baby wipes, pencils, glue sticks, spiral notebooks, tissue, color pencils, yellow highlighters, dry erasers, scissors, Crayola, vinyl folders and markers. One hundred percent of the items collected will be given to children in need living in Loudoun and Fairfax Counties. Many families rely on our collective help during the school year for food/meals from school programs during the year, said spokesperson Ken Courter.
County residents can visit their area Giant and look for the posters and flyers with a complete list of items. Giant and the Rotary Club of Ashburn intend to pack 1,000 backpacks this year, 400 more than last year.
Volunteers are needed July 28, 29, 30 and Aug. 4th, 5 and 6 to distribute flyers at area Giant Stores between 4 pm and 8 pm. Contact Courter at firstname.lastname@example.org or 571-201-3877.
