Ashburn’s Greenlief Advances in U.S. Women’s Amateur Golf Championship

Lauren Greenlief of Ashburn has advanced to the round of 16 at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at  the Golf Club of Tennessee in Kingston, Tennessee.

Greenlief, a University of Virginia graduate, defeated Alyaa Abdulghany, of Newport Beach, California, 4-and-3 Thursday (Aug. 9), to reach the round of 16. She was to play Annabell Fuller in the Round of 16 later in the afternoon.

Greenlief was a walk-on at the University of Virginia before eventually earning three varsity letters for the Cavaliers from 2010-12. In 2015, she because the youngest winner of the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship when, at 25 years, 25 days, she defeated Shirley Starosto for the title.

After graduating from Virginia in 2011 with undergraduate degrees in mathematics and economics, she went on to earn a master’s degree from UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce.

Greenlief, a management consultant, also reached the semifinals of the 2016 U.S. Women Amateur Four-Ball championship with partner Alexandra Austin.
