The deadline is Monday (Nov. 19) for candidates to file for the special election to fill the unexpired term of the 33rd District seat in the Virginia State Senate.
The special election is scheduled Jan. 8 to fill the seat vacated when Jennifer Wexton was elected to represent Virginia’s 10th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. The 33rd District includes parts of Loudoun and Fairfax counties. The unexpired term expires Dec. 31, 2019.
Important deadlines for the special election include:
- Candidate Filing: 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19.
- Registering to Vote or Updating Registration: 5 p.m. on Jan. 2, if doing so in person; or 11:59 p.m. if doing so online.
- Absentee Voting by Mail: Jan. 2 – The deadline for voters to request an absentee ballot to be mailed to them is Jan. 2. The request must be received by the Loudoun County Office of Elections and Voter Registration by 5 p.m. Voters may apply for an absentee ballot online.
