Douglass School Dean Charged with Assault for Incident With Student

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said a dean at the Douglass School in Leesburg has been charged with the assault of a middle school student that occurred last month.

The victim was reportedly inside a school bathroom vaping with several students on Sept. 5, when he was confronted by Ryan C. Fortenbaugh, 35, from Purcellville, who is a dean at the school. The victim said he was restrained by Fortenbaugh before being assaulted.

Fortenbaugh was taken into custody on Oct. 2 on a citizen-obtained arrest warrant for assault and battery. He has been on administrative leave from Loudoun County Public Schools since the reported incident.

Fortenbaugh was released on a summons.
