Update: Fatal Car Crash Closes Route 7 Westbound

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle crash around 2:55 p.m. on Route 7 near Yellow School House Road around Round Hill.

The driver of a Toyota Corolla was attempting to pull out of a driveway to cross the median crossover of Route 7, to travel east. The driver pulled out in front of a 2005 Mach tractor-trailer that was westbound, according to LCSO’s daily crime report.

The truck tried to swerve and hit the front of the Toyota. The truck went down down on its side before righting and jacknifing. The engine compartment and cabin of the truck caught fire, and the driver of the truck, Thomas D. Taylor, 36 of Timberville, Virginia died at the scene, according to the report.

The Toyota driver was taken to a Leesburg hospital with non-life threatening injuries, LCSO Public Information Officer Kraig Troxell said.

The crash remains under investigation. the roadway was closed for nearly 10 hours for crash investigation and scene clean-up. One eastbound lane was converted to a westbound lane by LCSO personnel to alleviate traffic in the area.
