For the ninth year in a row, Forbes Magazine has ranked Loudoun the richest county in the United States.
The ranking is based on median household income, of which Loudoun ranks highest with a median household income of $125,900, according to 2015 Census Bureau estimates, the most recent available.
Although almost 10,000 Loudoun residents commute to D.C., the majority of residents find job opportunities closer to home, with the top local employers being Dulles Airport, the Department of Homeland Security and Loudoun County Public Schools, Forbes said.
Loudoun is also known for its booming technology industry, with up to 70 percent of the world’s internet traffic flowing through the county’s data centers daily.
Neighboring jurisdictions Falls Church, Fairfax and Arlington also made the list.
