Senior Elle Lassiter of Round Hill will head up the Foxcroft School cast when the school presents the Tony Award nominated musical The Addams Family on April 21 and 22 at FoxHound Auditorium in Middleburg.
The Addams Family is based on characters created by Charles Addams in cartoons that depict a ghoulish American family with an affinity for the macabre.
The musical opened on Broadway in 2010 and received 10 Tony Award nominations, including Best Original Score and Outstanding Musical. The music and lyrics were written by Andrew Lippa and the book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice.
“I wanted to give my students a chance to do a contemporary musical after having done Shakespeare last year. Also, the Addams Family has a lot of characters that can be played by women and that is important at Foxcroft, which is a girls school. With very few exceptions, the girls play all of the characters — female or male — in our productions,” Fine Arts Department Chair Karin Thorndike said.
The Foxcroft production, directed by Thorndike, stars Lassiter, sophomore Seabrook Brown of Charleston, South Carolina, and junior Elle Rosse of McLean, along with sophomore Jenna Torrance of Leesburg, junior Morgan Hunt of Purcellville, and Foxcroft teacher Matt Mohler plays Gomez Addams.
“I am looking forward to sharing this hard-working and talented cast with the audience,” Thorndike said.
Performances of The Addams Family begin at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.
