Gloucester Closed Following Crash With Cyclist

Gloucester Pkwy. has been shut down at Smith Switch Rd. after a vehicle hit a cyclist shortly before 7 a.m.

The cyclist, an 83-year-old man, was walking his bike across the road in the crosswalk when he was hit by the 2016 Toyota Camry. The victim was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life threatening injuries and his status is unknown at this moment, LCSO Public Information Officer Kraig Troxell said.

The driver, August L. Amurao, 55, of Ashburn remained on scene while LCSO investigated the crash. Commuters can expect Gloucester and Smith Switch to be shut down for another hour, Troxell said. Amurao has been charged with reckless driving.
