Less than two weeks before Christmas, Santa Clause traded in his sleigh for a helicopter and made a special visit to Inova Loudoun Hospital Dec 14.
Escorted by the PHI Air Medical AirCare 3 helicopter, Santa landed at the hospital’s helipad as several delighted children watched from the window. He later visited the Pediatric Emergency Room and Pediatric Ward, delivering toys and reading a story to a group of children.
Though Santa had visited the hospital before, PHI Air Medical decided this year to give St. Nick his first-ever trip to Inova via helicopter. From landing to departure, his visit enthralled more than a dozen children who will be spending the holidays in the hospital.
“It’s definitely making today go a lot easier,” said Crystal Bergman, whose son Miles was in the Pediatric Ward as he watched Santa land. “I was worried about his recovery from surgery, so to have this was really a great distraction, especially for this time of year.”
