A Leesburg man has been charged with first-degree murder after the investigation into a body discovered inside a burned home near Lucketts last week.
Michael F. Bowles, 20, was taken into custody Aug. 1 in Fairfax County in connection with the fatal shooting of his father. The victim, Mario M. Bowles, 52, was found dead inside his home, LCSO officials said.
The fire was discovered shortly after 5 p.m. on July 25 when Loudoun County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Bald Hill Road and Steed Hill Lane near Lucketts after a passerby reported seeing smoke in the area. After searching the area, crews discovered the first and second floors to a single family home were on fire. Fire operations continued throughout the night to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
On July 26, officials were able to access and search through what remained of the home. At approximately 1 p.m., authorities discovered a body inside the residence, which was positively identified by the Office of the Medical Examiner on July 31, LCSO officials said.
Michael Bowles remains held at the Fairfax County Detention Center and is awaiting transport back to Loudoun County.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the homicide investigation in cooperation with the Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office arson investigation.
