UPDATE: Leesburg Police Identify Suspect on Jan. 1 Shooting

Update 12:30 Jan. 2: 

Leesburg detectives have identified the suspect in a New Year’s Day shooting as Justin Robin, a 23 year old Leesburg resident, according to a release from the department’s Wes Thompson.

The suspect turned himself in to the Leesburg Police Department at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Jan. 1 and has been charged with Aggravated Malicious Wounding. Robin is currently being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

The victim of the shooting, a 33 year old male from Springfield, Va. is listed in stable condition and is recovering in an area hospital. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time, however it does not appear to be gang related.

Leesburg Police Officers responded to a shooting at approximately 5:32 a.m. Jan. 1 at the Calrion Inn at 1500 East Market Street. Officers helped the victim, an adult male, and are still searching for the shooter.

The victim was taken to an area hospital. His condition is unknown at this time, LPD Media Contact Lt. Wes Thompson said.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Troopers and the Helicopter Unit from the Fairfax County Police Department helped in the search. However, the shooter has not been found at this time, Wes Thompson said in a release.

Detectives from Leesburg’s Criminal Investigation Section are investigating the incident and have determined it was an isolated event and there is no threat to the general public, Thompson said in a release.
