Loudoun Douglass Alumni to Host Fundraising Golf Tournament

The Loudoun Douglass Alumni Association (LDAA) invites the community to sign up for the 2017 Golf Tournament on Aug. 11 at The 1757 Golf Club. Participants can register to play or become a sponsor of the event.

The 2017 Golf Tournament sponsored by the LDAA, will benefit the organization’s scholarship fund. The LDAA gives over $10,000 a year in scholarships to descendants of those that attended Douglass High School, Loudoun County’s only all black high school which operated 1941-1968. All participating golfers will receive a “goodie bag” filled by event sponsors such as Reebok, Chik-Fil-A and more, according to an LDAA release.

The LDAA is also pleased to announce that The Loudoun County Chapter of the NAACP is sponsoring a team of Wounded Warriors to play at our event through the Salute Military Golf Association. The SMGA’s mission is to provide rehabilitative golf programs, experiences, and family inclusive golf opportunities for post 9/11 wounded war veterans in an effort to improve the quality of life for these American heroes.

“The LDAA is proud of our heritage and keeping the history alive of Douglass High School,” LDAA Board of Directors President Arnold Ambers said in the release. “It is important for us to continue the legacy of our school by providing scholarships to all descendants and having fundraisers like this year’s Golf Tournament helps us accomplish this mission.”

The tournament has a shotgun start at 9 a.m. with registration beginning at 7:00 a.m. Following the tournament there will be a lunch and a reward ceremony at 1:30 p.m. All are encouraged to participate. Players and sponsors can also register online.
