Loudoun County is under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 5 p.m. April 6 according to the National Weather Service.

By 2 p.m., the tornado threat had diminished and the Tornado Warning was cancelled. However, large hail and damaging winds remain likely and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning remains in effect for the area.

A Tornado Watch, a lesser alert, is also in effect until 5 p.m.

National Weather Service urges county residents should remain indoors to protect from wind and lightning. Wind may knock down trees, so the residents to stay away from windows and rooms near large trees.

Showers are expected to continue through April 7.
