The Mocha Moms of Loudoun County will be collecting gift cards at the Ashburn Library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 17 to support the Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter.
The Gift Card Donation Drive is the fall community service initiative for the local chapter of Mocha Moms Inc., a national organization providing “Sisterhood, Support, and Service” to mothers of color throughout the United States.
“We are excited about supporting survivors of domestic abuse in our local community,” Chapter President Paulina-Marie Ransom said. “We are collecting gift cards and gift certificate donations in $20 to $50 amounts, from Target, Wal-Mart, Safeway, Giant, Shoppers, Food Lion, other department stores, movie theaters, fast food restaurants and auto repair. The gift cards will help women in transition from the shelter back to the community, to regain control of their lives. The empowerment, awareness, and advocacy of victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault is a very worthwhile cause. We are thankful to have an organization such as LAWS doing this much needed work.”
LAWS provides free, confidential services to women and children who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse while working toward the elimination of personal and societal violence.
Mocha Moms provides support for women of color as they journey through all phases of motherhood while advocating for them nationally. Mocha Moms also encourages the spirit of community activism and service among its members.
