New Swim School Opening in Ashburn

Goldfish Swim School is entering Loudoun County, opening a 9,000-square-foot facility in Ashburn in March and hiring about 50 employees.

Goldfish, which formed in 2006 in Michigan, has other locations in Reston and Falls Church that are owned by a different franchisee. Goldfish, located at 21140 Ashburn Crossing Drive near Washington Redskins Park, is jointly owned by three couples with local ties and swim experience: Matt and Kendra Watson, William and Sarah Alberts, and Chris and Joe Berry.

Besides offering swim lessons in a warm indoor setting to children from four months to 12 years old, the school will host weekly family swims and parties. There will be a viewing gallery for parents to watch their kids swim, retail shop and tropical-themed décor.

The school plans to hire about 50 swim instructors, lifeguards, deck supervisors, customer service and other employees, said Nate Johnson, general manager of the Ashburn site.

“Most of the positions will be part-time,” he said. “We encourage students and adults to apply.”

Instructors and lifeguards need to have their certification, he added.

Loudoun has a few year-round swim schools, such as Potomac Swim School in Ashburn, SwimKids Swim School in Leesburg and Tom Dolan Swim School in Sterling.

The rates at Goldfish start at $98 a month for one child’s lesson per week, which is comparable to others. Drop-in lessons will be offered for $24.50, and family swims will cost no more than $15 per family.
