Purcellville Plans 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at First Responders Monument

Purcellville has scheduled its annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 11) at the First Responders Monument.

Mayor Kwasi Fraser and the Purcellville Town Council will serve as hosts for the event. Participants include Purcellville Police Department, Purcellville Volunteer Fire Company, Purcellville Volunteer Rescue Squad, Loudoun County Fire and Rescue and the Combined Honor Guard from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, Leesburg Police Department, and U.S. Naval Sea Cadets Corps – Viking Division.

Chaplain Larry Brooks will give the invocation and deliver the closing prayer, Boy Scout Troop 163 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and soloist Paul Ritchey will sing the National Anthem. Designing Flowers is donating the wreath that will be placed at the First Responders Memorial.

The guest speaker is Art Castellano, a retired K-9 Officer with the Arlington County Sheriff’s Department and a first responder to the attack at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001.

The First Responders Monument is near the Bush Tabernacle at 250 South Nursery Ave. in Purcellville. The steel beam on the top of the monument is a piece of Tower Two of the World Trade Center and the base of the monument is made of stone from a barn near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
