Rainy Forecast Prompts Flash Flood Watch For This Afternoon, Evening

With another wave of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for this afternoon and evening, the National Weather Service has again placed Loudoun County under a flash flood watching beginning at noon today (Aug. 13).
According to the NWS office in Sterling, the predicted weather event “will be capable of producing intense rainfall rates the could lead to flash flooding.”
With the ground already saturated and water levels in streams and rivers already high from heavy rain the last few weeks, any additional moisture is likely to produce more flooding.
The forecast for today predicts scattered showers possible this morning with afternoon showers or thunderstorms developing. A few storms may be severe. The high temperate is expected to reach 82 degrees.  The chance of rain is 50 percent.
Motorists are reminded NOT to drive into flooded areas.
DON’T DROWN; TURN AROUND.
