Safety Classes for Prospective Babysitters

Loudoun residents ages 11 to 14 who are considering getting into the babysitting business might consider monthly Safe Sitter classes offered by INOVA Loudoun Hospital.

For $70, the prospective entrepreneurs will participate in a curriculum created by a pediatrician that includes the following:

  • Babysitting as a business
  • Success on the job
  • Childcare essentials
  • Safety for the sitter
  • Injury management
  • Preventing problem behavior
  • CPR techniques training (no certification)
  • Care of choking infant
  • Care of choking child

To pass the class, students must pass a practical and written test to show they have grasped the concepts and can handle an emergency.

Classes are taught from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month, except holiday weekends, at the hospital’s Lansdowne campus, 44045 Riverside Parkway, in Leesburg. The class cost includes a student handbook and snacks, and group discounts are available.
