A Leesburg man was released on a summons for reckless handling of a firearm after an incident Thursday night involving neighbors looking for their lost horses.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded about 9 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 8) to a home in the 40000 block of Sidesaddle Court for a report of disorderly conduct.

The homeowner said he heard a noise outside and went out with his pistol to investigate. He said he saw people near his back fence and yelled at them twice. When they didn’t respond, he fired a round into the air.

The people he referred to said they were trying to find their horses that had left their pasture.

After a consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, the homeowner was released on a summons for reckless handling of a firearm.
