Sheriff’s Office Seeks Witnesses to Fatal Arcola Crash

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is seeking potential witnesses to a single-vehicle crash that killed two passengers last month.

During the crash investigation, LCSO officers determined there were up to three vehicles in the area around the time of the crash. Loudoun Sheriff’s Crash Investigators are asking those drivers and other potential witnesses to contact investigators at 703-737-8308.

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 22, a Loudoun Sheriff’s Deputy was running RADAR and observed a speeding car heading northbound on Old Ox Road near Dulles West Boulevard.

The Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop, the driver disregarded a red traffic light and continued at a high rate of speed. A short time later the deputy discovered the driver crashed into a tree in the area of Evergreen Mills Road and Stone Springs Boulevard near Arcola. The total time of the traffic stop was less than 30 seconds, LCSO officials said.

The driver survived the crash and exited the vehicle before it became engulfed in flames. Two passengers inside the vehicle, Kyle W. Youngblood, 29, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and Cody R. Cooling, 27, of Washington, D.C., died on the scene, LCSO officials said.

The driver, David G. Brown, 25, of Ashburn was charged with reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit and additional charges are likely.
