Riverside Parkway was shut down at Kipheart Dr. Wednesday morning following a fatal accident with pedestrians. A mother and child were hit by a car at the intersection, Aleksandra Kowalski, LCSO Public Information Officer said.
The 5-month-old boy died and the mother was seriously injured and is being treated at a local hospital.
LCSO continues to investigate the accident. The mother was pushing her son in a stroller shortly before 8:10 a.m. The two were crossing Riverside Parkway from Coton Manor Drive toward Kipheart Drive. A driver was turning onto Riverside Parkway from Coton Manor Drive and did not see the pair. The man, driving a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, hit the mother and child while they were in the crosswalk.
The Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is reviewing the investigation with the Loudoun County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office to determine any possible charges, according to the release.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is released.
